Self-Drilling Anchor Bolt is an efficient geotechnical anchoring component that integrates the functions of drilling, grouting and anchoring. It does not require pre-drilling and is particularly suitable for complex geological conditions that are fragmented, loose and prone to collapse.
Core structure composition
Hollow Bar
Material: High-strength alloy steel (such as Q345B, 45# steel), with a yield strength typically ≥ 600MPa. Structure: Centrally hollow, with a continuous full thread (R type or T type) on the outer wall. The thread not only facilitates extension but also enhances the grip force with the grouting material.
Drill Bit
Material: High-speed steel (tungsten steel), highly wear-resistant and hard. Types: Cross-shaped, ball tooth-shaped, wedge tooth-shaped, etc., suitable for different geological conditions such as soft rock, hard rock, and soil layers.
Coupler
Used for connecting multiple rods to achieve seamless extension and enable deep drilling to any depth. The internal threads precisely match the rods, ensuring coaxiality and connection strength.
Plate
Square / circular steel plates, which distribute the nut pressure and protect the rock and soil at the opening.
Nut
Apply prestress through the threaded connection to fix the structure and the base plate.
Working principle
Drilling Under the rotational and impact force of the drilling machine, the anchor rods are cut and crushed by the drill bit to break the rock and soil. High-pressure air / water is ejected through the drill bit hole from the hollow inner cavity, flushing the rock debris in the opposite direction, without the need for casing for wall protection. Grouting After drilling to the designed depth, there is no need to pull out the drill rod; instead, pressure grouting is directly carried out through the hollow rod body. The grout (cement slurry / cement mortar) flows out from the drill bit and fills the channels and fractures, covering the entire rod body. Fixation After the grout solidifies, the rod body forms an integral force-bearing body with the rock and soil, providing adhesive anchoring force. Installing pads and nuts, prestress can be applied to provide end-bearing anchoring force.

Standard construction process
◆ Preparation: Drilling rig, anchor rods, drill bit, grouting pump, grout. ◆ Installing the drill bit: Screw the alloy drill bit onto the front end of the first anchor rod. ◆ Connecting the drilling rig: Connect the anchor rod tail to the drilling rig and align it with the hole position. ◆ Drilling + slag removal: Rotate and impact, and use air/water to remove the slag until the designed depth is reached. ◆ Pressure grouting: Grout through the hollow rod until the grout returns from the hole opening. ◆ Lengthening (if necessary): Use a coupling to connect the next rod body, and repeat the drilling. ◆ Installation: Insert the spacer plate, tighten the nut, and tension for locking if necessary. ◆ Curing: The grout solidifies to reach the designed strength.
